Five Relocation Tips for New Homeowners
No matter where you relocate, reducing the stress of the process is the number one priority. Moving to Tampa or the Central Florida area is no different, but fret not! We’ve compiled five relocation tips you can employ when it comes time to relocate to your new home.
Do Your Research
There’s nothing worse than getting to the front step of your new home, worldly possessions in tow, and you have no idea where anything is within your new city. Taking a little time to map out the essentials (e.g. grocery stores, pharmacies, home improvement stores, etc.) will save you from going on a wild goose chase when you start unpacking and realize you forgot things or can’t find some thing.
Get Settled Quickly
One of the downfalls that plague many people who move into a new home in Central Florida is that they don’t settle in quickly enough. Avoid having half-empty moving boxes sit around the house too long. This can keep you and your family from feeling “at home” and stifle opportunities to really become part of the neighborhood.
Set a Schedule
There’s a recurring theme here. The main goal is to get acclimated to your new environment, so you should start setting a daily schedule, too. Joining a gym, other special interest groups to meet people or fill the hours always helps. Waking up and doing certain morning routines around the house (e.g. mowing the lawn, walking the dog, etc.) can help open the door to meet some of your neighbors.
Utilize Resources
If you’re relocating to the area for a job, take advantage of this by asking your employer to connect you with area resources. If your boss knows the area really well or a shortcut to work, ask them. Curious about the best schools or restaurants in the area? Consult those in the office who probably know best.
Get Involved
One of the best ways to get acclimated to your new neighborhood is by becoming an active member of your community. Join a neighborhood watch, volunteer at a local charity or join the PTA. You’ll make new acquaintances, who have undoubtedly lived in the area longer than you, and can help you out in times of need.
We understand that relocation can be a stressful experience for you and your family, but with a little research and Stanley Martin Homes’ help, you can make the process far more digestible and easier for everyone involved.
